Something’s brewing in Las Vegas — and it smells like metal.
Rumors are picking up speed that Metallica may be the next major act to take over The Sphere, the high-tech, sound-immersive venue that’s already hosted U2 and Phish.
So far, there’s been no official announcement. But fans have noticed a few suspicious clues:
Metallica has an unexplained gap in their touring schedule for late 2025
A podcast guest connected to the Sphere mentioned “testing sound for a very loud band” (the episode was later deleted)
Vegas insiders are unusually quiet about fall bookings at the venue
if metallica at the sphere is happening im going to need another credit card

And then there’s the fact that Metallica has never done a residency before — making this move even more intriguing.
Metallica have not yet commented on the Sphere rumor, but guitarist Kirk Hammett expressed his interest in playing the venue in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter earlier this year.
Whether it’s just wishful thinking or something louder is coming, one thing’s clear: the idea of Metallica playing inside the Sphere has fans buzzing. Imagine “Master of Puppets” shaking the floor with 160,000 speakers.
Until we hear it from the band themselves, it’s all just noise. But in Vegas, that’s often where the truth starts.
Phish, Dead & Company, U2 and the Eagles are the other rock-leaning groups that have played residencies at the arena. The DJ Anyma, Kenny Chesney, Backstreet Boys, another electronic music group (including Kaskade and DJ Snake) and Zac Brown Band were the next artists to play it, respectively.
Opened in 2023, The Sphere features the world’s largest spherical structure, standing 366 feet tall and 516 feet wide, with an exterior fully wrapped in a dazzling LED display that can project dynamic visuals visible from miles away. Inside, it boasts a 16K resolution wraparound screen and immersive audio technology that frankly looks cool as hell.
While the Sphere rumors swirl, Metallica is officially hitting the road in 2025 — and fans down under are in for a treat. As part of their ongoing M72 World Tour, the band will bring their thunderous two-night, no-repeat shows to Australia starting in early March. Cities on the schedule include Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane, with Metallica promising deep cuts, classic anthems, and the full stadium experience.
